Naragonia

Naragonia is the duo of Pascale Rubens (accordion, fiddle) and Toon Van Mierlo (accordion, flutes, bagpipes).  The group originated (in 2003) when they were asked to play together for a dance. It worked out fine & now they are happily married.

The group is very much appreciated to play for dancing in several countries in Europe (Belgium but also France, Portugal and others) and it is remarkable that they play mostly self written music.

They have released three CDs under the name of Naragonia. They both play with many groups,

Both Pascale and Toon are well known as composers of dance tunes and published a collection of their dance tunes in 2010.

Pascale Rubens started off with a classical training for the violin, but at 18 fell in love with the melodeon. In 1999 she formed the duo Musaraigne. This duo gave lots of concerts in Belgium and abroad and brings out the CD ‘Convoi exceptionnel’ in 2005. In that year Musaraigne represented Belgium on the EBU Festival in Gdansk. Three years later Pascale joins Griff and plays on their first album. In 2003 Naragonia is formed. She teaches the accordion in 3 music schools and at international workshops.

As a child Toon Van Mierlo starts off playing the oboe. At 21 he discovers the uillean pipes and falls in love with this instrument. Soon he also plays the French bagpipes, next to melodeon, soprano sax, flutes and clarinet.

In 2003 Toon joins Fluxus and rises to fame.  He plays and records with groups like Göze XL and Floes.  Today he performs on stage with Embrun, Harakiwi, Hot Griselda and Manimoen, next to Naragonia or  Naragonia Quartet. Toon teaches bagpipes and melodeon in the music academy of Schoten and at several workshops in Belgium and abroad.
